DEPUTY MINISTER OF HEALTH LAUNCHS GTBCM
The Honorable Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Gladys Norley Ashitey on Wednesday 18th April 2007 formally launched the Global TB Candlelight Meditation (GTBCM 27 May) in Accra. The occasion was chaired by Nana Daasebre Kweebu Ewusi and the welcome address speech was read by the President and founder of Afro Global Alliance Chief Austin Arinze Obiefuna.
However, the Deputy Minister maintained that “TB has become a global phenomenon and no respecter of persons in our societies because TB anywhere is TB everywhere, just as the 2007 world TB day implies.
However, as a result of this, a concerted and coordinated effort is needed from all stakeholders to stem the tide so as to reduce the prevalence rate in the country in particular and seek to address the eradication of TB by the year 2050 (global stop tb target) from the surface of the world.
It is therefore against this back drop that the global TB candlelight meditation, an instrument for advocacy, communication and social mobilization channel which is being launched today, must be lauded and supported by all.”
The launching ceremony ended with the inauguration of the TB Voice Network (AGA Initiative) by Dr. Nicholas A. de Heer, the President Ghana Society for prevention of TB.
